The Premier League have offered their support to Liverpool in the wake of the incident that saw a car crash into pedestrians during the club's title parade

The Premier League have offered their full support to Liverpool following an incident during the Reds' title parade. A car crashed into pedestrians towards the end of the bus parade through the city centre.

The incident happened towards the end of Monday's parade, which took in a 10-mile route through the city. Police have arrested a 53-year-old white British man from the local area.

The Premier League have confirmed they have been in touch with Liverpool to offer their support. A statement read: "Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.

"We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident."

Police have also asked the public to not speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident, with enquiries ongoing. A statement read: "We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.

"We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.

"We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784. Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West are now involved in the investigation, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer being kept updated. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has described the scenes in Liverpool as “truly shocking”.

She said: “Thank you to the police and emergency services for their swift response to the truly shocking and horrendous scenes in Liverpool this evening. Thinking of all those affected at this very difficult time. The police are investigating and I’m being kept updated on developments.”

Liverpool club chiefs are also in contact with the police. A statement read: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

The extent of any injuries is at this point unknown, though an air ambulance has landed in the area. There are a large number of police cordons in place, with two fire engines blocking off Water Street.
