A fan recounted the horror scenes they saw when a vehicle plowed into the crowd celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League title win, as fans attempted to stop said vehicle.
As supporters were celebrating the club's most recent Premier League title win, a male was detained by Merseyside Police after plowing into a crowd. Though the exact number of people affected is unknown at present, Liverpool Ambulance Service released a statement on the incident, with an air ambulance spotted in the area as well.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer also has been briefed on the incident, issuing a response as officials determine the severity. Merseyside Police has released more updates on the driver, with the suspect being a 53-year-old "white British man" per the most recent statement.
Fans at the scene also recounted the harrowing ordeal, with one fan in particular mere feet from where the vehicle began to strike the crowd. Speaking with Liverpool Echo, a fan by the name of Harry Rashid spoke on the incident, getting a first-hand view of what was happening just feet from him.
"It happened about 10 feet away from us," he began to the outlet. "We were just in a crowd and we had no control over where we would be, because it was a very narrow street. The vehicle came to our right. It emerged from just right next to an ambulance, which was parked up. This people carrier just pulled up from the right and just rammed into all the people at the side of us."
He then described how once the crowd became aware of the situation, they all began to try and stop the driver themselves. “Then he stalled for a few seconds, probably about 10 seconds. Then the crowd that was a bit further back started rushing at him trying to smash the windows," he continued.

"People were having a great time," Rinaldi began. "Then we heard some screams, we heard screams. It was so loud. People sounded desperate. Then we looked out the window and we saw that a car had run over people and there was a woman stuck over the car.
"People started rushing to go after the driver and they tried to break the car. Then the police tried to block them, they did everything they could to push people away... We could just hear screams and screams. We were very confused.
"Some of my friends were down there and the car was so near to them. It was a horrible scene."
