A car was driven at speed into a crowd of people in Liverpool city centre this evening during Liverpool FC's championship parade.

The Prime Minister has released a statement in the wake of an incident where a car drove into pedestrians amid Liverpool FC's title celebrations in the city centre.
Scores of Reds fans thronged to the city on this day to witness the football club's euphoric parade. Reports confirmed by Merseyside Police indicate several individuals within the throng were struck by the vehicle.
Authorities have taken a 53 year old, white, British male into custody following the car's crash into the gathering, according to the force.

Updates on the unfolding situation are being relayed to both the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer issued a response, asserting: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

He expressed gratitude towards the response units: "I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident."
Sir Keir added: "I'm being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate."
A vast police perimeter has been established on Water Street, the scene of the calamity, with a procession of emergency vehicles present along the route.
In their statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police stated: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre."
The force received alerts shortly after 6pm today, Monday, May 26 concerning a collision involving a car and multiple pedestrians on Water Street, whereupon the vehicle halted at the location and a man was apprehended.
"Emergency services are currently on the scene.
"We will issue more updates as we have them."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police stated just before 8pm: "We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.
"We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.
"We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us @MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784.
"Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
