Carlo Ancelotti has recalled a number of Premier League players for his first squad and left out the fit-again Neymar.
Ancelotti will make his Brazil bow next month in World Cup qualifiers at Ecuador and at home to Paraguay on 5 June and 10 June respectively.
The former Real Madrid boss named a 25-man group on Monday and brought Manchester United duo Casemiro and Antony back into the fold along with Tottenham forward Richarlison.
Casemiro last represented his county in 2023, but played under Ancelotti at Real Madrid and is back in the national team after strong end to the campaign for United.
Ancelotti told a press conference: "In my opinion, he is a great player. I was lucky to be with him. I think the national team needs this type of player who has charisma, personality, talent. Brazil has always had a lot of talent.
"In modern soccer, you have to add attitude, commitment, sacrifice, and Casemiro has that. And many of those who have been called up have that."
Neymar has endured an injury-ravaged couple of years before he returned to boyhood club Santos in January, but has to wait to make his Brazil return.
Various other key figures like Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, Newcastle's Joelinton and Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo - both currently sidelined - were also left out.
"(Neymar) has returned to Brazil to play and prepare well for the World Cup. I have spoken to him to explain this call and he agrees with us," Ancelotti explained.
"The list includes many surprises because several players are injured or still recovering."
Anthony earned a recall after a superb loan at Real Betis, where he has scored nine times and will aim to fire them to Conference League glory against Chelsea on Wednesday.
