Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in a move for Ansu Fati as Jorge Mendes will speak to the player before determining the next steps.
According to Helena Condis Edo, Ansu Fati has emerged as a target for Chelsea ahead of the summer window. The underperforming Barcelona attacker could be on the move as super agent Jorge Mendes could open talks with the player before determining his future.
Back in the summer of 2023-24, Ansu Fati made a surprise move to Brighton, which many regarded as the right step to revive his career. While the move did not prove successful with the winger experiencing fresh injury issues then, the player once dubbed as the next Lionel Messi has not lived up to his billing.
Barcelona were confident that Fati to have a meaningful career and even decided to hand him the No.10 number vacated by Messi. Injuries have played a major part in the downfall of the underperforming Barcelona attacker, who has had problems even this season.
In all, he has played a total of 11 games for Barcelona this season, totaling 298 minutes. For a player of his quality, Hansi Flick barely showed any faith in playing him, which showed his standing in this team. Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently stated he would love for Fati to stay at the club as per his comments that appeared on Fabrizio Romano’s post on X.
Barcelona were ready to sell him back in January, when there were a few clubs keen, including some from the Premier League. Tottenham and West Ham were interested then as per reports, although now it appears Monaco are keen to take the underperforming Barcelona attacker to France.
Chelsea are interested in Ansu Fati
As per journalist Helena Condis Edo, Mendes is in Barcelona to sort out a new contract for his A-lister client and star player Lamine Yamal. He will also meet with Fati to determine the next steps of his career, as apart from Monaco, even Chelsea are interested.
The Blues are actively looking for fresh reinforcements in the market, as they might part ways with Jadon Sancho once the season ends. Manchester United could receive a paltry sum to cancel the agreement in place with the Blues, as there’s a big possibility the club view the underperforming Barcelona attacker as a potential replacement for the English winger.
Chelsea are also looking at Jamie Gittens as an option to bolster their wing, as there are many other names mentioned in reports. The idea of Fati could play out in two ways, especially if the Blues can get him on a loan with a buy option, as a low-cost acquisition at this moment could prove to be a solid bargain this time next year if the underperforming Barcelona attacker starts performing to his levels.
