The emergency services have now confirmed the number of casualties from today's incident at Liverpool's trophy parade.
The Premier League champions were celebrating their title win with an open-top bus parade through the city centre. But the joyous mood suddenly changed shortly after 6pm when a vehicle drove into multiple pedestrians on Water Street.
Footage circulating on social media showed the incident and the police's quick response to apprehend the driver. The driver has since been arrested and confirmed by police as a 53-year-old, white, British male from the Liverpool area.
It was being reported that dozens were injured during the incident. However, in a press conference on Monday Bank Holiday evening, David Kitchen of the North West Ambulance Service confirmed the number of casualties in an official statement. He told the media...
"Four of the injured were children. We can confirm our teams treated 20 people for minor injuries at the scene. 27 patients were taken to hospital. We believe two of those have sustained serious injuries."
A paramedic cyclist was also struck by the vehicle but was not injured.
Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Nick Searle added further context, explaining that three adults and one child were trapped under the vehicle. They were all removed by the emergency services who arrived on the scene.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims of the Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terrorism at this time. The motivations of the apprehended driver and the wider circumstances of the incident remain unconfirmed.
Earlier this evening, pedestrian Chelsea Yuen gave her account to the media.
"We were literally like sardines walking up the street, and then we heard beeping and screaming, and when we looked up, there was a black people carrier driving straight towards us. Me and my friend Francesca jumped out of the way and pulled her little girl out of the way. I'm just in shock. Like, we can't stop shaking."
