LeBron James Sends Prayers After 'Senseless Act' Hits Home

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James may have been eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs this season, but that hasn’t stopped him from staying active on social media.

James is a minority owner of Liverpool F.C., the soccer club that just won the Premier League for the first time since the 2019–20 season.

The club held its championship parade on Monday, with thousands of Liverpool fans lining the city streets. What was meant to be a day of celebration took a tragic turn when a minivan plowed through the crowd late in the event.

Multiple pedestrians were injured, and police and ambulances quickly arrived on the scene. A 53-year-old British man was arrested.

Several hours after the incident, James took to social media to send his thoughts and prayers to those who attended.

"OMG!!!! WTH," James wrote. "My deepest thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone affected that attended @LFC Premiere League trophy parade today! Such a senseless act! 🤦🏽‍♂️. #YNWA 💔."

Harry Rashid, a fan at the parade on Monday, spoke to the Associated Press about what he witnessed.

"It was extremely fast," Rashid said. "Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car. "It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people. My daughter started screaming, and there were people on the ground."

James purchased his 2% stake in Liverpool F.C. back in 2011, which has since become just a 1% stake in Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

FSG is the majority owner of Liverpool, and James' stake also makes him a minority owner of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and the MLB's Boston Red Sox.
