Four children were injured, one seriously, when a car drove into crowds at the Liverpool FC Premier League parade in the city centre today.
Local emergency services held a press briefing to provide an update on the incident on Water Street, Liverpool earlier today.
During the news conference, it was revealed that a total of 27 people received hospital treatment following the incident, with an additional 20 suffering minor injuries. Among those injured were four children, one of whom was seriously hurt. A 53 year old White British man was apprehended at the scene. The police have confirmed they believe him to be the driver of the vehicle.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said that their crews managed to lift the vehicle and remove a child from underneath. They said that upon their arrival at the Water Street location, four individuals were trapped beneath the vehicle.
The North West Ambulance Service reported that two individuals, including one child, sustained serious injuries.

The city centre had been teeming with hundreds of thousands of fans who had come to see their football heroes celebrate their Premier League victory. The Reds players had embarked on a 15km bus tour around the city, culminating in spectacular scenes on The Strand in the city centre.
However, the jubilant atmosphere turned to shock and horror shortly after 6pm when a car drove into pedestrians on Water Street, near Liverpool Town Hall. Merseyside Police responded to reports that a car had struck several people.
A significant number of emergency services, including police cars, fire engines, and ambulances, are currently stationed around the Water Street area. An air ambulance has also made a landing near the Liver Building.

During a press conference at Liverpool's Cunard Building, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated: "Just after 6pm today we received reports that a car had been in a collision with a number of pedestrians in Water Street in the city centre."
She continued: "A number of people were injured and taken to hospital. The car stopped at the scene and a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested. We believe him to be the driver of the vehicle."
ACC Sims added that while they are still trying to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the collision, it is not being treated as a terror-related incident.
Liverpool council leader Cllr Liam Robinson also addressed the press conference, expressing his sympathy: "I'd like to start by saying on behalf of everyone in Liverpool how much our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this appalling incident in the city centre.
He continued: "It has cast a very dark shadow over what had been a joyous day for the city and the finale to a fabulous bank holiday weekend. I would like to pay tribute to the emergency services who responded to help those who were hurt and to our NHS staff treating them in hospital."

Cllr Robinson added: "We are working closely with Merseyside Police to support their investigation, and with other relevant organisations to make sure those affected get the appropriate support. "He concluded with a plea to the public: "I would appeal for people please not to share the horrifying footage of the incident on social media - please if you have information forward it to Merseyside Police to help them with their investigation.
