Man Utd facing Premier League competition for£8.5 million starlet but deal makes little sense for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have been linked with one of Brazil’s stand-out talents this season, but face competition from Premier League clubs for his signature

Following their Europa League final defeat, Manchester United are preparing a major overhaul of Ruben Amorim’s squad to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Several departures are already confirmed, with Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of June.

To further boost Amorim’s reported £100 million summer budget, the club will also need to offload additional players.

The futures of key names like Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Andre Onana remain uncertain, while the senior players currently on loan are expected to leave the club permanently.

United show interest in up and coming left-back

While already having the likes of Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Luke Shaw and Harry Amass in the side, as well as Diego Leon joining the side in July, United are seemingly interested in signing another left-back.

As reported by Trivela, the Reds are among the clubs interested in signing Botafogo left-back Cuiabano, with his representatives being in Europe in recent months to meet with clubs about a potential move.

United are rivalled by Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as clubs from Turkey and France in fighting for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Cuiabano’s versatility is something that is admired by the English clubs, as since the beginning of May, the Brazilian has been practically playing as a winger, and would slot in well as Amorim’s left wing-back owing to his proficiency in both defence and attack.

Botafogo would be looking for a fee in the region of £8.5-£12.5 million to acquire the services of the talented wing-back.

Which positions should United prioritise?

With United having a wealth of young talent at left-back and wing-back, it doesn’t really seem necessary for Amorim to go after another left sided player considering there are many more positions that demand serious change.

With United scoring just 44 goals this season, a club record low, a major overhaul of the attacking lineup is inevitable, and with a number of players already set to depart Old Trafford this summer, the attacking sector is certainly one that should take priority.

Uncertainty already surrounds the futures of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, while Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as someone who could be on the move this summer.

With United working on a limited budget this summer, it’s critical that they sign players that are both suited to Amorim’s playing style, as well as the physical nature of the Premier League in order to get back into European competition.
