After Matheus Cunha agreed terms with Manchester United, another Wolves star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is off to a flying start, with Rúben Amorim already shaping his squad for the upcoming season.
Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf will all depart when their contracts expire next month. Amorim has also reportedly informed Alejandro Garnacho that he is free to find a new club.
The United coach is looking to reinforce almost every position in his squad, with many of his players looking to be replaceable going into next season.
United will look to prioritise players that are Premier League ready, and therefore physically suited to the demands of the league, as there have been a number of occasions where the side have been outmatched by their opposition.
United in for another Wolves star
Following Matheus Cunha’s move to Old Trafford being virtually confirmed, United are linked with a move for another Wolves star, as they look to re-build their squad.
As reported by Football Transfers, United have now shown interest in signing Nelson Semedo as a free agent when his contract expires on the 30th of June.
The 31-year-old Wolves captain is expected to depart Molineux despite being offered a four-year contract extension to extend his stay in the Black Country.
While no agreement is in place as of yet, United’s interest could develop quickly, as they look to rebuild under Amorim and to give Cunha’s the chance of a perfect welcome gift with a familiar face at Old Trafford.
Would Semedo be a good signing?
There’s no doubt that Semedo has been a great servant for Wolves over the five years he has been at the club for, and his availability as a free agent would be appealing for United to pursue.
United’s lack of funds this summer means that they will be looking for bargains wherever they can, and with the former Barcelona right-back currently being on around £84 thousand pounds a week, it would also be a cost-effective move.

Like Cunha, a move for the right-back would be of interest for Amorim, as Wolves also play with a 3-4-2-1 formation, and Semedo has done well operating as one of the wing-backs, as well as sometimes playing as the right centre-back.
While underperforming in his maiden season at Wolves, the Portuguese defender has gotten better year on year, culminating with him winning Wolves Players’ Player of the Season in last season’s campaign.
