What does DeVonta Smith do in the offseason? He’ll show you

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith is in his first offseason as a Super Bowl champion.

Smith had four receptions for 69 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown reception, in the Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 to win the NFL championship for the 2024 season.

On Sunday, Smith provided a glimpse into how he’s preparing for another run at the Super Bowl -- and it starts at 4:48 a.m. –by releasing the video “The Offseason: Episode 1” on his YouTube channel.

There’s not a football to be seen in the video, which features Smith working in a dimly lit gym and on a sun-splashed track, accompanied by sound clips and live sound.

Smith is preparing for his fifth NFL season. In his first four, he had 308 receptions for 4,011 yards and 27 touchdowns. He’s the 13th player in NFL history to reach those totals in those three stats in his first four seasons.

Smith also has 43 receptions for 595 yards and two touchdowns in nine playoff games. He’s the only player in NFL postseason history to reach those totals in those three stats in his first four seasons.

Smith’s NFL production follows his success at Alabama. During his four seasons with the Crimson Tide, Smith had 235 receptions for 3,965 yards and 46 touchdowns. Each number is a Crimson Tide career record, and Smith also holds the SEC career records in receiving yards and touchdown receptions.

In 2020, Smith won the Heisman Trophy as he had 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. He set the Alabama and SEC single-season records for receiving yards and touchdown receptions.

The Tide topped Ohio State 52-24 in the CFP national-championship game for the 2020 season in Smith’s final game for Alabama. He had 12 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns against the Buckeyes as the Tide won its second national title during Smith’s time in Tuscaloosa. He capped the 2017 season with a 41-yard touchdown reception that ended Alabama’s 26-23 overtime victory over Georgia in the CFP national-championship game.
