The city of Liverpool is in shock after a car ploughed into a crowd of people during the Reds’ Premier League trophy parade.
A huge crowd celebrated Arne Slot’s title winners, but after Liverpool’s open-top bus reached its final destination, further down the 10-mile route a car veered into pedestrians on Water Street.
A 53-year-old man was arrested and 27 people were taken to hospital.
‘Horrific incident’ at Liverpool parade
Four children were among about 50 people injured in a “horror” incident after a car ploughed into a crowd during Liverpool’s Premier League title parade, with one youngster seriously hurt.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the “horrific incident” was not being treated as terrorism following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene.
The Prime Minister said he had spoken to the Mayor of Liverpool about the incident, adding: “Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror.”
At a press conference on Monday evening, Dave Kitchin from North West Ambulance Service said 27 people were taken to hospital and 20 people were treated at the scene, with four children among the injured. He said two of those taken to hospital, including one of the children, suffered serious injuries.
Former Liverpool player and manager Sir Kenny Dalglish said: “Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today’s tragic event. Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You’ll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you.”

Myles Hippolyte scored the only goal at Wembley to fire Wimbledon into League One with a 1-0 victory over Walsall.
Hippolyte, who was a National League player in 2022, produced a thunderous strike on the stroke of half-time before Johnnie Jackson’s side had to ride their luck after the break.
It earned Wimbledon Wembley delight again, nine years after previous play-off success and 37 years after the ‘Crazy Gang’ shocked Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup final.

Oliver Glasner promised Crystal Palace would go all out to win all four competitions they enter next season at the club’s jubilant FA Cup parade.
Wet weather did not dampen spirits as a large crowd gathered to watch an open-top bus parade from Whitehorse Lane to Holmesdale Road before lucky supporters to get a ticket inside Selhurst Park were treated to more memorable moments.
“Four competitions, four titles to win, let’s go for every single one,” Glasner declared on stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that his time at Al Nassr is over after he scored in Monday’s 3-2 loss at Al Fateh.
“This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” Ronaldo posted on his social media accounts alongside a picture of him in an Al Nassr shirt.
Only last week FIFA president Gianni Infantino claimed “discussions” were happening over a move which would allow Ronaldo to feature in the Club World Cup this summer.
What’s on today?
With most domestic seasons in Europe over, focus turns to the international scene and one-time England boss Steve McClaren will be in action as his Jamaica team face Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly fixture.
There is still one match of consequence which involves an English club as Chelsea gear up for Wednesday’s Conference League final. Enzo Maresca and a player will face the media in Wroclaw on the eve of the fixture.
And with the summer’s first transfer window opening on Sunday, expect more speculation over the likes of Ronaldo, Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap and Florian Wirtz.
