Sheikh Jassim makes decision on fresh Manchester United takeover bid after 'disaster season'

Man Utd concluded a dreadful season with a 15th place finish in the Premier League and defeat in the Europa League final.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani has finally given up any hope of completing a Manchester United takeover after they concluded a dreadful season with a home win over Aston Villa. United finished 15th in the Premier League and without any silverware or European football as they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur a week ago.

United supporters held fresh protests over the current ownership of the club on Sunday afternoon, as roughly 1,000 fans marched to Old Trafford ahead of the final match of the season. There were further protests inside Old Trafford as fans held banners and sung defamatory songs about the Glazer family and Jim Ratcliffe.

Speaking on the pitch at full-time, Ruben Amorim labelled the season a 'disaster' but was adamant the good times would soon return. He retains the backing of the United board but knows pressure will be even higher next season to finally turns things around.

Sheikh Jassim will not revive takeover interest

It was claimed back in December that Sheikh Jassim and the Nine Two Foundation was still 'very much interested' in any Manchester United investment opportunity and dreamed of owning the team he supposedly supports. "He is still a United fan. He is not going to rush off and try another Premier League club," a Qatari advisor told them. "If the opportunity to buy the whole of Manchester United arose again at some point in the future, it is hard to see there not being a big level of interest. The plans are still there."

It is understood the Qatari group made a £4.79billion offer to buy United outright from the Glazer family last year. However, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings released last year claimed the Qatari failed to provide sufficient proof of funds before he eventually withdrew from the process. His withdrawal led to the Glazers accepting an offer from Jim Ratcliffe to buy a quarter of the club's shares for £1.25billion, which valued the club at the £5bn mark.

However, the Daily Mail now report Sheikh Jassim will not revive his takeover interest after being given little hope of it happening. The report claims there is currently little chance of a fresh takeover bid and little appetite for such a move given how the process played out with the Glazer family. It adds that Ineos are thought to have no intention of walking away from the club following the amount of work they have already carried out to change its direction.
