Marco Asensio says he is "looking forward to what’s ahead" after the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa.
Signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in February, Asensio made an instant impact under Unai Emery, scoring eight goals in his first 10 appearances in all competitions.
However, after missing two penalties against Southampton, Asensio struggled to maintain his form, despite starting in Premier League wins over Newcastle United, Fulham, Bournemouth, and Tottenham.
Villa do not have an option to buy Asensio permanently, but PSG are open to selling him, and a deal could be arranged for a reasonable fee.
That’s because Asensio has just one year remaining on his contract at PSG and will turn 30 next season.
Posting on Instagram, the Spaniard did not say goodbye to fans, instead hinting that he could return, expressing optimism about the future.
He wrote: “A big thank you for this season! I’ve felt at home since day one and had very special moments — grateful to be part of this team.
“We left everything on the field to fight for the club’s objectives. Proud of the effort. Looking forward to what’s ahead!”
