Liverpool could sell star to Bayern Munich if "a suitable offer arrives"

Liverpool are surprisngly willing to sell Cody Gakpo to Bayern Munich if they submit a “suitable offer” to sign the Dutch winger despite just winning the Premier League.

The Reds lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday – a title that Gakpo was key in winning. His ten goals and five assists should have been higher after he tailed off from the form he showcased before the New Year but he can hold his head up high.

Until now, it seemed as though Liverpool had no intentions of selling the former PSV Eindhoven star but that changed today when Florian Plettenberg shared the news that he is a target for Bayern Munich.

According to ‘Plettigoal‘, Bayern Munich are now “also considering CodyGakpo in their search for a high-profile left winger!

“The 26 year-old Dutchman is on the shortlist behind Kaoru Mitoma and Rafael Leao.

“There has already been contact regarding Gakpo – and still is.

“Max Eberl likes him. Gakpo is considered a potential departure candidate at FC Liverpool if a suitable offer arrives. Contract until 2028.”

Is this the butterfly effect after Liverpool poached Florian Wirtz from Bayern Munich?

While not an outright left winger, Flo Wirtz will have a left-sided role at Liverpool and the case would have been the same at Bayern Munich. The role that Philippe Coutinho flourished in during his final half-season at Anfield is what Arne Slot should consider deploying Wirtz in.

The ability to come in off the left-flank and wreak havoc in central areas – be it through dribbling, shooting or passing – is something Liverpool will be able to capitalise on next season.

However, Wirtz joining Liverpool is bad news for the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. If the club sign a new striker to replace Darwin Nunez as expected, there will be no starting role for either the Dutchman or the Colombian.

That said, Liverpool cannot sell Nunez, Diaz and Gakpo unless there are some audacious tranfer plans in the works.
