Report: Major Idrissa Gana Gueye twist in latest Everton contract headache for David Moyes

Everton announced four departures on Monday with fans left waiting on the final contract decisions.

David Moyes said decisions would come on Monday and it was confirmed four of the loanees would be returning to their parent clubs.

There was some good news with Everton opening talks for Carlos Alcaraz to sign permanently following his short-term loan deal.

Everton are now left working on the likes of Idrissa Gana Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin whose future remains hanging in the balance.

Angus Kinnear is aware this summer is going to be busy for the club who are undergoing a major rebuild.

Keeping a player like Gueye would mark a positive step in the right direction for the Blues who will otherwise have a tough task of replacing him.

But there has now been a significant development over the future of the Senegal midfielder.

However, no resolution has been found yet on the contract front with the clock ticking.

According to Foot Mercato, Paris FC are now looking to offer Gueye a return to Ligue 1 following their promotion.

The Senegalese midfielder has, of course, already played in the French capital during his time with Paris Saint-Germain.

But the newly-promoted side are eyeing the 36-year-old’s services to bolster their squad ahead of their 2025/26 campaign in the top flight.

Gueye has had other options to leave Everton as the talks at Finch Farm are seemingly going right down to the wire.

But it would appear Everton are doing all they can considering an answer has not been shared just yet from the club.

Everton could need a midfield transformation

On Monday afternoon, Everton confirmed Orel Mangala would be heading back to Lyon following his injury-stricken campaign.

Adding Abdoulaye Doucoure’s exit and now potentially Gueye, this could see a major overhaul in the midfield department this summer at Everton.

Everton are keen to sign Angel Gomes from Lille, but the England international is of interest to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

It is going to be a fierce and competitive market for Everton, but midfield is an area which they are going to have to improve.

Thankfully, Everton have been mapping out midfield targets for a while now as they were well aware of the situation which could unfold.
