Liam Gallagher has sent his prayers to those affected by the Liverpool car attack. On Monday, as thousands of people gathered across the streets to celebrate Liverpool FC's Premier League victory parade, a car ploughed into the crowd, leaving dozens injured.

A white British man, 53, from the Liverpool area, was arrested shortly after the incident, Merseyside Police confirmed. Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the "horrific incident" was not being treated as terrorism following the arrest at the scene.

Now, Oasis icon Liam has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, joining a string of famous faces to send their thoughts. "Thoughts and prayers with all our brothers and sisters of LIVERPOOL," he said to his 3.8 million followers. Former Atomic Kitten star, Natasha Hamilton, has also condemned the attack.

The singer shared a snap of her grandfather and nephew taken in the city centre prior to the parade. She said: "My dad & nephew were in Liverpool today at the celebration parade. Then I saw a video of what happened and my heart sank. Thankfully they're both safe but I am absolutely horrified at what I saw today and my thoughts * prayers are with all those affected! #YNWA."

Love Island star Sharon Gaffka also took to social media to share that she had been in the city centre at the time. She said: "I wasn't sure if it was going to be insensitive to post this, but after seeing so much love and community online, I wanted to share a small moment from yesterday."Like almost 1 million other Liverpool fans, I was in the city to celebrate, in the rain, with some of the people I love, proud of this club and everything it means to people.

"What unfolded after was terrifying and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with everyone affected by the events. And I hope everyone got home safely. What struck me most wasn’t just the devastation, but how this city responded. I've seen so many fans and locals offering lifts, shelter and comfort to complete strangers - because that’s what Liverpool is. It's resilience. It's community. It's people looking out for each other in the worst of times."

Four people were also trapped underneath a vehicle, including three adults and one child. Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: "I want to thank all of the emergency services, partner agencies and members of the public who came to the assistance of the injured following this evening's shocking incident, which we declared a major incident. This had been a joyous day in Liverpool with hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets to celebrate Liverpool Football Club's victory parade."

"A number of people have been injured and were taken to hospital. In addition, a large number of people of all ages were treated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment."

At a press conference late on Monday evening, Dave Kitchin from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said 27 people were taken to hospital and 20 people were treated at the scene, with four children among the injured. He said two of those taken to the hospital, including one of the children, suffered serious injuries. Mr Kitchin said some patients had also taken themselves to local hospitals.

Merseyside Police said it was called to an incident on Water Street shortly after 6pm, on the day Liverpool were celebrating their Premier League title win with their fans. A dark grey people-carrier was seen driving through the crowd, ploughing into dozens of fans while relentlessly beeping its horn.

The car reportedly stalled mid-way through the street, before later continuing to accelerate into the crowd. Horrific footage at the scene showed numerous people thrown to the floor as the car continued to accelerate. It subsequently came to a stop in the middle of Water Street, and police rushed in to surround the vehicle.

Shortly after the incident, police released a statement urging people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the incident. They said: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us @MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784."

Merseyside Police confirmed that the incident isn't terror related

In a statement, Starmer said: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected." The Prime Minister later added: “Tonight, I have spoken to Steve Rotheram about the terrible events in Liverpool and the remarkable bravery shown by the police and other emergency services.
