Door could open for Man Utd after Euro giants plan to sell £18.4m midfielder

Bayern Munich are looking to offload a host of players in the summer transfer window, and Leon Goretzka could be facing an uncertain future.

According to a report from Bild, the German giants could offload as many as six first-team players, and Goretzka is one of them.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Goretzka in recent transfer windows, and the news will come as a major boost for them.

The Red Devils could be in the market for a new midfielder after the club decided to allow Christian Eriksen to depart in the summer.

After a disastrous 2024/25 campaign, Ruben Amorim will want to build the squad to his own taste, and Man Utd could revisit their long-standing interest in Goretzka.

The central midfielder has not been a regular starter under Vincent Kompany, and a potential move to Old Trafford could breathe a fresh lease of life into his career.

CF Bayern Insider Christian Falk noted back in April that Leon Goreztka does not want to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old midfielder has a contract at Bayern until 2026, and he is keen to complete his tenure. The club, on the other hand, want to sell him.

Bayern’s sporting directors, Max Eberl (51) and Christoph Freund (47), are taking cost-cutting measures, and they would be happy to offload Goreztka, who could cost in the region of £18.4 million.

Bayern must look to sell Leon Goretzka

The former Schalke midfielder has been with us since 2018, and he has made over 260 appearances for the club, scoring 45 goals.

Goretzka made 13 starts in the Bundesliga this season, and a further nine starts have come in the Champions League. He has scored five goals in all competitions.

Bayern have too many players in the midfield areas, and the squad needs trimming. The likes of Goretzka and Palhinha should be sold to free up space for potential new arrivals in other departments.

The Bavarian giants are looking to bolster their left wing areas, and they have been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma, who is also being chased by Arsenal.

Goretzka still has plenty of football left in him, and United should make an attempt to bring him to Old Trafford. His passing ability (90.6% accuracy), per Sofascorfe, is still admirable, and his wealth of experience would come in handy.

As it stands, Bayern would be open to selling Goretzka if an opportunity arises, and therefore the door could be open for Man Utd to lure him to Old Trafford.
