WREXHAM will find the next step-up the toughest one yet but don't bet against Phil Parkinson's side clinching a place in the Premier League.

That's the view of Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke who graced the top-flight for many years.

After finishing runners-up in League One to secure an historic third successive promotion, Wrexham will line-up in the Championship next season for the first time in 43 years.

Yorke, who represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup alongside Reds' star Dennis Lawrence, says it would not be a surprise if Parkinson's men went up again.

Speaking to SambaSlots, he said: "Wrexham have had a story and a half, that is what football is all about.

"They have the Hollywood connection and they have really brought the club up to the next level.

"The players and fans have fed off that and credit to Phil Parkinson for the job he has done in getting them back to the second tier, it’s some feat and it’s really been like a Hollywood movie.

"Wrexham in the Premier League? Given what we have seen so far, who could rule it out? It would be simply incredible."

But Chris Waddle cautioned Wrexham - owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - over life in the second tier.

The ex-England international warned that the wages they will need to pay will be a huge step up, and suggested that the Reds' ageing squad will need heavy investment to survive, with Premier League promotion a way away.

Speaking on behalf of yaysweepstakes.com, Waddle, who played and scored in Newcastle's 4-2 win at St James' Park during Wrexham's last season in the old Division Two in 1981-82, said: "They'll not be big hitters in the Championship.

"They'll not be because you're talking wages that will be completely different from what they're on now.

"We'll see how they fare - they might need to buy a lot of players. Every league is harder and Wrexham's an ageing team.

"Will they invest in buying players like they have done so far, signing players in their 30s?

"Their dream is to get in the Premier League, but if you want to go to the Premier, you're talking a lot of money to get out of that Championship."
