However, there was a belief that Delap was prioritising European football as he looked to make a major step forward in his career.

It is believed the 20-year-old has now shifted his thinking towards which club would best suit his development.

Regular minutes are going to be key for Delap as he is still only young and only has one season of Premier League football under his belt.

Everton are thought to have guaranteed Delap regular minutes in their starting XI if he is to make the move to Merseyside this summer.

Joining the Toffees would also allow the Manchester City academy product to return back to the north west.

For now, the wait goes on.

There are a number of clubs who would be able to offer Delap Champions League football for next season.

Newcastle United are believed to have held their latest round of talks with Delap on Monday, but surely he would not be uprooting Alexander Isak from the starting XI.

Moyes is open to signing two strikers at Everton following the lack of consistency across the season in that position.

The starting spot up front is up for grabs this summer on Merseyside and Delap could certainly take that with both hands.

What the striker does not want to do is lose the hype around his potential in the way which Evan Ferguson has over recent years.
