Man City fan Liam Gallagher sends message to Liverpool after car attack at title parade

Liam Gallagher has extended his thoughts to the victims of the Liverpool car incident. On Monday, amidst the thousands celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League triumph parade, a car careered into the crowd, leaving many injured.

Merseyside Police have apprehended a white British man, 53, from the Liverpool area shortly after the tragedy. Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated that the "horrific incident" was not being investigated as terrorism following an on-site arrest.

In response to the events, Oasis lead singer Liam turned to X, known formerly as Twitter, adding his voice to the litany of celebrities offering sympathies. "Thoughts and prayers with all our brothers and sisters of LIVERPOOL," he conveyed to his 3.8 million followers.

Ex-Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton likewise denounced the atrocity.

The songstress posted a photo of her grandfather and nephew who were in the city centre before the festivities began. Expressing her relief and disgust, she announced: "My dad and nephew were in Liverpool today at the celebration parade. Then I saw a video of what happened and my heart sank. Thankfully they're both safe but I am absolutely horrified at what I saw today and my thoughts * prayers are with all those affected! #YNWA."

Love Island's Sharon Gaffka turned to social media to recount her experience in the city centre during the chaos, expressing: "I wasn't sure if it was going to be insensitive to post this, but after seeing so much love and community online, I wanted to share a small moment from yesterday."

Amazed by the unity she witnessed, she added, "Like almost 1 million other Liverpool fans, I was in the city to celebrate, in the rain, with some of the people I love, proud of this club and everything it means to people."

Sharon continued, disclosing the harrowing aftermath, "What unfolded after was terrifying and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with everyone affected by the events. And I hope everyone got home safely. What struck me most wasn't just the devastation, but how this city responded. I've seen so many fans and locals offering lifts, shelter and comfort to complete strangers - because that's what Liverpool is. It's resilience. It's community. It's people looking out for each other in the worst of times."

Adding a note of gratitude, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated: "I want to thank all of the emergency services, partner agencies and members of the public who came to the assistance of the injured following this evening's shocking incident, which we declared a major incident. This had been a joyous day in Liverpool with hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets to celebrate Liverpool Football Club's victory parade."

A statement revealed: "A number of people have been injured and were taken to hospital. In addition, a large number of people of all ages were treated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment."

In a Monday evening press conference, North West Ambulance Service's Dave Kitchin reported that 27 individuals were hospitalised, 20 received on-site treatment, and four minors were among the injured. Notably, two hospitalised patients, including one minor, sustained severe injuries.

Additionally, some individuals sought medical attention at local hospitals on their own accord.

Merseyside Police disclosed that they responded to a Water Street incident shortly after 6 pm, coinciding with Liverpool's Premier League title win celebrations. Eyewitnesses described a dark grey people-carrier careening through the crowd, horn blaring relentlessly, and striking numerous fans.

Witness accounts indicated the vehicle stalled mid-street before resuming its reckless acceleration into the crowd. Disturbing footage captured multiple individuals being knocked to the ground as the car persisted in its acceleration, eventually coming to a halt on Water Street.

Police promptly swarmed the vehicle. In the aftermath of the event, the local constabulary implored the public to refrain from conjecture regarding the incident's backdrop.

Their statement implored: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us @MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784."

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer conveyed that he had been in dialogue with Liverpool's Mayor about the distressing occurrence, emphasising: "Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror."

Starmer conveyed his dismay in a statement: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected."

He commended the emergency personnel and underscored the city's resilience: "They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events. Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror. The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times. Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool."
