Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nélson Semedo has just over a month left on his contract and it’s unclear where he will play next season.
The Portugal international’s contract situation at Wolves has seen Benfica step forward to try and sign him for free in the summer window. Two months ago, Record reported the Eagles have made advances in their pursuit of the Wolves player.
On April 18th, O Jogo stated the Premier League club have made a last-ditch effort to stop the right-back’s exit. They also stated Vítor Pereira’s side will make another effort quickly.
It’s unclear whether Wolves have made a renewal offer to the 31-year-old, but he’s aware of the Eagles’ interest. He’s been speaking to CNN Portugal about Benfica’s interest and his future and Maisfutebol have relayed Semedo’s comments.
The fullback was at Benfica between 2012 and 2017, and Bruno Lage, who managed him at Wolves, is currently in charge at the Lisbon club.
“I think Benfica are interested in me coming back. I just have to thank them for their interest,” he said.
“I’ve been happy there, it’s a place where I’ve experienced many good things. I was a champion and it’s the club of my heart. For these reasons, coming back would be great, but we’ll see.”
The Wolves defender explained he will sit down with his family and decide the next best step for him.
“Honestly, I don’t know where I’m going yet. I have to sit down with my family, see what’s best for me and decide with my head, not my heart,” Semedo explained.
The former Barcelona man has played 38 games for the English club this season.
