Arsenal transfer news: Gunners handed Viktor Gyokores boost as star's release clause is 'triggered'

Arsenal are looking to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad this summer after finishing 10 points behind Premier League champions Liverpool and without a trophy

Arsenal wrapped up the season a full 10 points adrift of Premier League victors Liverpool, with not a single trophy to their name.

However, there's no wavering in the club's top brass that Mikel Arteta is the right gaffer for the job, and he's expected to be backed with fresh signings this summer.

The centre-forward and left-wing spots are tipped for bolstering, but other areas might also need beefing up.

A potential reshuffle in goal has taken an unexpected turn, with chatter linking David Raya with Real Madrid hinting at a new No. 1 landing at the Emirates rather than a backup.

Here, Daily Star Sport brings you the latest Arsenal transfer gossip....

Barcelona trigger Joan Garcia's release clause

Arsenal nearly bagged goalkeeper Joan Garcia in January, but they could now lose out completely.

Barcelona have reportedly reached a tentative agreement with the Espanyol ace and plan to activate his £25million buyout clause, according to Spanish media.

The Catalan side are rumoured to be keen on loaning Garcia out before gradually introducing him as their new No. 1 in a year's time, reports the Express.

This spells trouble for Arsenal and their ambitions of snapping up one of Spain's brightest young keepers.

Arsenal handed Viktor Gyokeres boost

Among all the clubs eyeing the Swede, Manchester United and Arsenal are believed to have the most serious interest.

The buzz around Old Trafford is easy to grasp, given Gyokeres' phenomenal goal-scoring spree under Ruben Amorim at Sporting.

Sky Germany has spilled the beans that a switch to the Red Devils is pretty much dead in the water. United have shifted their gaze to Matheus Cunha, leaving Gyokeres less than keen on donning the red jersey.

This leaves the stage set for Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta to make his move and bag his prime attacking prize.

Arsenal's Emi Martinez stance

The Sun has been buzzing with chatter that the Gunners might fancy a blast from the past with their ex-keeper if Raya jets off back to Spain.

Martinez seemed to be giving the Villa faithful a parting wave during his last game at Villa Park not long ago.

And it's crystal that he's got no beef with his old squad, despite warming the bench for most of his previous ten-year stint at Arsenal.

In a heart-to-heart last April after a 2-0 victory for Aston Villa at the Emirates, Martinez reminisced: "I think it was 10 or 11 years here. I've still got friends here. I came here as a lad and left a man. I will always love this club."
