Liverpool postpone further events as internal email leaked after parade car crash

A leaked email from Liverpool Football Club suggests that they have postponed a number of internal staff events celebrating their Premier League title win, after a car crashed into fans during their parade. A number of events had been planned for staff to further mark their triumph, but they have now been put on the back burner while the club offers support to victims and those affected.

After a car drove into supporters on Water Street during Monday's title parade, 27 fans, including four children, were rushed to hospital. Three adults and a child had to be dragged from underneath the suspects car by fire crew. Merseyside Police are questioning a 53-year-old "white male" suspect.

The harrowing incident is not being deemed terror-related by authorities, with police treating it as a lone, isolated matter.

In an internal email seen by the BBC, staff were informed that the club “will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities” and encouraged “to come together at this time to support each other”.

The move comes after a poorly timed social media post by Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who put a picture online of himself kissing the trophy just two hours after a car had ploughed through hordes of fans in the city centre. He has since deleted the post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Dave Kitchin of the North West Ambulance Service confirmed 27 people had been taken to hospital by ambulance during a late-night press conference. "We can confirm that our teams treated 20 patients at the scene for minor injuries and these did not need hospital treatment," he said.

"27 patients in total were taken to hospital by ambulance and we believe two of those, including one of the children, have sustained serious injuries."
