The Mayor of Liverpool has released a statement following the incident that saw 47 people injured during Liverpool's open-top bus parade on Monday evening. A 53-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving into pedestrians on Water Street, which was packed with thousands of Liverpool fans celebrating their Premier League title win.
Police have confirmed that they are treating the incident as an isolated one and not as an act of terrorism. Several prominent figures from both UK politics and the world of sport have since offered their thoughts and prayers to those affected.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, the city's mayor, Steve Rotheram, provided an update on the next steps and sent a message to the people of Liverpool.

As per the Liverpool Echo, Rotheram sent a defiant message thanking all those involved in helping those who were injured and stated that the attention turns to allowing the police to continue their investigation. Rotheram also confirmed that four people were hospitalised with serious injuries - an increase from the two initially reported late on Monday night.
"There is still a police presence here and a tent up at the scene and the police will continue to carry out their investigations until they are satisfied that they have collected all the evidence and that they can open Water Street and the surrounding," the Mayor stated. "Yesterday is a complete contrast to the scene now, there is hardly anybody on the streets and yesterday there was up to one million people perhaps on these streets all with one thing in mind to show the football team that they love the admiration, the euphoria at winning the Premier League and watch their heroes go by and that's what happened to the large extent.
"This was post the celebrations because the coach had gone past and then we saw the car at the footage that everybody has seen on social media.

Liverpool Fan Hospitalised After Being Struck by Car at Parade Speaks Out
The supporter has shared his harrowing experience and given an update on his health.
"I want to thank the police and all the emergency services but also those people who went the extra mile because there was a whole host of people who pulled out all the stops.
"Along with the emergency services at the scene who did a brilliant job and of course the police. They did a wonderful job in all the arrangements for this. But there was a whole host of people, ordinary Scousers, ordinary people from the city region who also need to be recognised and thanked.
"We need the police to conclude their investigations, that's what we are waiting for and then the road will be opened and things go back to normal. Except of course those people who witnessed what happened here and certainly with the four people who are still seriously injured in hospital and they are our main concern and all the focus should be on them."
