Matheus Cunha has explained a ‘secret’ trait of his that Rúben Amorim will absolutely love once he signs for Manchester United.

Manchester United are close to announcing Matheus Cunha on a five-year contract, with the Brazilian national signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a £62.5 million fee.

Cunha will become Rúben Amorim’s maiden signing in the 2025 summer transfer window and a much-needed attacking addition to what has been a derilict front line at Old Trafford this season.

United will pay Wolves the £62.5 million in three installments, the first of which will be a £20.8 million payment upon completion of the signing.

Cunha will play on the left of United’s front three, starting over Alejandro Garnacho, who looks increasingly likely to leave this summer.

Cunha explains “secret” trait of his training

There have been some comments from those familiar with Cunha’s game that, despite his talent and ability, he can sometimes provide too much of an attitude.

He was handed a four-game ban and £50,000 fine after lashing out at Milos Kerkez and being shown a red card during an FA Cup loss against Bournemouth, with some pointing to this as a potential red flag ahead of his Old Trafford move.

However, in a recent day-in-the-life video released by Wolves’ official media channels, which followed Cunha for a day, he took a camera crew through a tour of his house, showing them inside his home gym, where he always makes sure to do extra work away from club training.

“This is my little part [of the house]. This is where I spend more time… this is one of the secrets,” Cunha explained as he entered the gym and showed the crew his extensive equipment.

“You know, it’s good to have this space here, to be a little bit more close to the family. Don’t spend a lot of time in the club, but it’s still training, because [I think] it’s essential to my profession.”

Amorim will absolutely love Cunha’s work ethic

Above anything else, Amorim has consistently explained that he wants players who work hard for their team, so it is no surprise that Amad and Mason Mount are among his favourite players at Old Trafford.

While Cunha will no doubt have to mature as a player as he makes the step up to Old Trafford, his clear desire to work hard and put in extra work will be a trait that Amorim will greatly appreciate.

With Cunha currently 25 years of age, he is just starting to enter his prime years as a player, and the extra work and training put in off the pitch and away from the ground is a trait that all those who become world-beaters possess.

On the pitch, Cunha will be expected to influence United’s attacking line and contribute to the team’s defensive structure.

It’s currently expected that Cunha will combine with Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu on the left flank next season and help the wing-back defensively.
