'Always questions' - Scott Brown states what Celtic fans want from Greg Taylor ahead of…

Has Greg Taylor played his final game in Celtic colours?

On Saturday, Celtic were beaten by Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final, with Taylor starting at left-back and not being able to bow out in the perfect manner by winning the Treble.

Over in England, Kieran Tierney scored in his final Arsenal game to bow out in style, as he is expected to return to Celtic colours and become Brendan Rodgers’ starting left-back.

That left-back spot has been an interesting one because it has had many players fighting to become the main guy, but on many occasions, Taylor has always continued to earn the regular minutes.

That includes recent months when January capture Jeffrey Schlupp took that place, before he was benched by Taylor, including for Celtic’s trophy day celebrations against St Mirren.

But would the Celtic Park faithful like Taylor to stay on board?

Scott Brown on what Celtic fans want from Greg Taylor

At the start of the season, Rodgers had to come out and defend Taylor because there were some negative noises around the player.

But Scott Brown feels that the Celtic fans would ‘love’ for Taylor to stay and fight Tierney for that starting left-back spot next term.

The legendary skipper stated that, despite people questioning Taylor’s ‘defensive ability’, he has been a ‘very, very good’ player for the club, as he told BBC’s Scottish Cup coverage.

“He has played in all the big games,” said Brown. “He is technically very, very good. What Brendan likes as well, he can be that inverted one as well. He goes in the middle of the mark, so nice on the eye as well.

“Everybody always questions his defensive ability. They always talk about the Champions League. Kieran is coming back. Everybody knows that. He is an unbelievable player.

“Maybe it’s time for Greg to go and try something else. Celtic fans would still love to have him here about competing against Kieran as well.”

Taylor vs Kieran Tierney record at Celtic

Taylor signed for Celtic in 2019 from Kilmarnock, just as Tierney headed for the exit door and secured a club-record £25 million transfer to Arsenal.

One thing the duo have in common is that they played in dominant Celtic teams time and time again.

This is how their records look on paper, and to nobody’s surprise, there are trophies galore.
