Reporter Describes How Car Was Caught Up in Euphoria

Thousands of fans had lined the streets to see the Liverpool squad parade the Premier League trophy

BBC reporter Dan Ogunshakin, who was at the scene with a friend, detailed how he had seen the car moments before the shocking incident, and claimed that it was surrounded by jubilant Liverpool fans who he described as 'rocking' and 'banging' on it.

This was followed by the vehicle reversing back into an ambulance before being 'shooting forward,' accelerating into bystanders. Ogunshakin stated that at that moment "the atmosphere completely changed." He also revealed that he helped two people lying on the ground, including one elderly woman and one man who was in 'floods of tears.'

Ogunshakin added: "No-one went to Liverpool expecting to be involved in something quite like that."

Ogunshakin Posts Detailed Thread on Social Media

The reporter posted several tweets regarding his experience

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Ogunshakin took to X to give a detailed account of the day leading up to the incident, while also giving a brief description of what ensued.

"Home after what's been a day I'll never forget for better or for worse. It started as a mission to get to Liverpool itself from Manchester as thousands of people descended on the city to celebrate the Reds. After an hour-long wait the cheer that greeted our train was nuts," he wrote in his first post.

"After moving one stop, the train was paused and then told was running straight to Liverpool Lime Street. The songs that rang out made the journey. Everyone was buzzing. Arriving in Liverpool was an assault to the senses. People everywhere, a sea of colour and noise.

"Everywhere was busy. Getting a beer proved tricky but the mood was one of celebration and no one cared. Even the bad weather couldn't dampen people's spirits. We had no idea when the parade would arrive but the party continued unabashed.

"Then the Liverpool team came in to view and sent a surge of energy through the crowd. We only saw them momentarily but it was enough. Once they moved on, thousands of people decided to move on, making our way up Water Street at which point everything changed from party to terror.

"People scattered, unable to believe and comprehend what we'd witnessed. It was bedlam. Panic set in for so many, there were injured people on the floor. The first responders were magnificent. So many people had no idea an incident had taken place. It was surreal.

"Hoping desperately that those injured make a full recovery and can't help but feel lucky to have escaped being injured having been so close."
