Liverpool icon Sir Kenny Dalglish has offered his condolences following a devastating crash during the club's Premier League victory parade, which left the city in shock. On Monday, 47 people were injured when a car collided with fans on Water Street in the city centre, with 27 requiring hospital treatment.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims, confirmed a 53-year-old white British man was arrested at the scene, and the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

Emergency responders pulled four individuals, including a child, from underneath the vehicle after it was driven into the crowd.

David Kitchin of the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that 20 patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries, not requiring hospital admission.

However, 27 patients were taken to hospital by ambulance, with two, including one child, believed to have sustained serious injuries.

The incident has left a profound impact on the city, prompting a heartfelt response from former Liverpool player and manager Dalglish, who stated via social media: "Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today's tragic event. Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You'll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you," reports the Mirror.

Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, took to X to express his dismay, stating; "Devastating end to the day... just pray everyone is ok", while fellow ex-Red Robbie Fowler also shared his anguish, posting: "Heartbreaking news... absolutely sickened with what's happened here in Liverpool."

Former striker John Aldridge addressed the entire LFC community on social media, writing: "For all the LFC family to all the people affected from today's horrific event, YNWA."

On the night following the events, Liverpool issued a poignant statement: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted by this grave incident. We stand ready to extend all our support to the emergency services and local authorities managing the aftermath."

Midfielder Curtis Jones echoed the sentiments via his Instagram story, accompanying the official statement with a prayer and heart emoji.

The tragic occurrences were also acknowledged by the Premier League, which announced: "Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected."

And from the world football's governing body, FIFA President Gianni Infantino conveyed his solidarity saying: "Football stands together with Liverpool FC and all fans of the club following the horrific incident that has taken place during the trophy parade in the city. From everyone at FIFA, we send our thoughts and prayers to all those affected."

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected."

He further commented: "They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events. Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror.

"The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times. Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool."
