€90m battle for prolific star brewing between Manchester United and Liverpool

Manchester United are ready to battle Liverpool to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star forward Hugo Ekitike during the summer transfer window. United are planning a squad overhaul during the summer to back Ruben Amorim for next season after last season’s misery.

The Red Devils finished the season 16th in the Premier League table, along with the heartbreaking Europa League final loss. United sacked manager Erik ten Hag in the middle of the last season, appointing Amorim immediately to turn things around.

However, Amorim’s tactical style of play proved too much for the current squad to adjust to, furthering their disastrous form. United faced the dilemma of either backing their current manager or once again changing the managerial role to accommodate players.

Manchester United are ready to battle Liverpool to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike and replace Rasmus Hojlund under Ruben Amorim

The Red Devils have opted to back Amorim, who intends to play his tactics, using the summer to make changes. One of the key area that require changes is the attacking department where Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have failed.

Both Zirkee and Hojlund have not contributed consistently and have also struggled to establish themselves as regular starters under Amorim. The former Sporting CP boss enjoyed great success in Portugal by deploying Viktor Gyokeres regularly as his trusted forward player.

United have to sign a player who could start regularly for Amorim and lead the club with consistent goal contributions. According to CaughtOffside, United are ready to battle arch-rival Liverpool to sign Frankfurt star Ekitike during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has made 48 appearances for Frankfurt in all competitions this season, contributing 22 goals and providing 12 assists. Standing at 1.90 metres, Ekitike has a physical presence, yet he uses his flair, movement and agility to build attacks.

At 22 years of age, Ekitike fits the profile that Amorim needs to mould the forward and use him in his tactical philosophy. However, Frankfurt are demanding a huge offer of around €80–90 million to let the French forward go this summer. United are struggling with financial problems, which could prove problematic to get this deal done during the summer.
