Newcastle will find out “this week” whether they have won the race for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, according to reports.
The England Under 21 international has a £30m release clause in his contract and talkSPORT claim he has held “talks” with no less than four Premier League teams.
It is believed that the Magpies, Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton have all had conversations with Delap and his represenatives.

The 22-year-old is said to be looking to make a quick decision on his future as he looks to focus on playing for his country at the European Under-21 Championships this summer.
A Newcastle legend is a big fan of the forward
Speaking about Delap back in April, Alan Shearer anticipated that he would be pursued by several clubs following his excellent season at Portman Road:
“Ipswich fans won’t want to hear it, but it’s inevitable that he’ll be linked with massive football clubs because he’s a really good talent. They’re sat on something special are Ipswich. They put their neck on the line and paid the money for him and they’ve done very well with him.”
“Delap has stood out this season which unfortunately means that he will attract the attention of the big clubs.”
Who are the favourites to sign Delap?
Alexander Isak’s presence means that Newcastle can’t really guarantee the player first-team football and that will hinder their efforts to secure the Englishman’s services.
Manchester United were believed to be the frontrunners for the striker up until very recently. However, the Red Devils’ failure to qualify for the Champions League has damaged their chances.
At the moment, Chelsea are regarded as Delap’s likeliest destination. He has worked with Enzo Maresca before during his time at Manchester City and the Blues will also be playing in Europe’s top competition next campaign.
