Marcus Rashford has hinted his future may not lie at Aston Villa after the Manchester United forward sent an emotional message following the end of his loan spell.

The Englishman spent the second half of the 2024/25 season at Villa Park where he experienced a bit of a resurgence, but missed their final games of the season with a hamstring injury.

During his time at the club, Rashford scored four times and provided six assists in 17 appearances as Unai Emery's side finished 6th in the Premier League, just missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

Villa have an option to make the deal permanent this summer for £40 million, which now remains doubtful with the player waiting to decide on his future.

It will not be at United, however, with reports Ruben Amorim is still not willing to integrate him back into the squad.

But an emotional 'farewell' posted online by Rashford also seems to end any talk of him staying at Villa.

Taking to Instagram, he said: "Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has - injury aside - been an incredible few months for me. It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch.

"Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant. I know it's a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place - which everyone worked so hard all season for - but I know this club and team will come back stronger."

Villa forward Morgan Rogers, whose goal at Manchester United was controversially ruled out, was one of many to wish the player well, commenting: "My brother".

United players also showed their support.

Antony, Christian Eriksen, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana, Ethan Wheatley, Joe Hugill and Godwill Kukonki are the current United players to 'like' the post. Former United teammates Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also among those to 'like' the message.
