**The season is over, and Newcastle United have a shiny new trophy in the cabinet and Champions League football to look forward to next season. Not bad at all, eh?**
Now it's silly season with the transfer window upon us. It's time to be linked to every player with a heartbeat while wading through seemingly never-ending pages of tosh linking our best players with clubs who couldn't afford the laces of their boots.
One player we're expecting to see many nonsensical stories around is, of course, Alexander Isak, who has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool for months now.
However, a trophy and Champions League qualification should appease any wanderlust Isak may have been having, and we'd like to think it would be enough for journalists to realise it's time to leave the story alone.
Alan Shearer has no fear that Alexander Isak will leave Newcastle this summer
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's how Alan Shearer views it anyway, and we're inclined to agree. Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast that he is 'pretty certain' Newcastle can keep hold of Isak this summer, thanks to the achievements of this season.
> "Got to keep him and they will, I’m pretty certain of that. Because of their success this year, because they’ve got Champions League football, all of those things.
>
> "There’s not a worry in my mind that he’s going anywhere. He’ll be a Newcastle player next season because he’s a very, very, very good player."
Alexander Isak is likely to sign a new deal with Newcastle before next season
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talks over a new deal for Isak stalled earlier this season, with both parties agreeing to revisit the situation at the end of the season when the financial landscape at the club would be clearer.
Isak still has plenty of time left on his existing contract so there is no rush to get a new deal done, it's more of a gesture to onlookers and recognition of Isak's contribution than a necessity.
Now that the Magpies have Champions League in the bag, the club will have more scope to give Isak a deal worthy of his quality, and we expect that will happen this summer.
