Jurgen Klopp posts emotional message following Liverpool parade crash which has left 47 injured

Jurgen Klopp has posted an emotional statement expressed his shock and devastation following the tragic scenes in Liverpool on Monday.

Forty-seven people were hurt in a road traffic incident that occurred after the team's Premier League title-winning parade, 20 of whom were treated in hospital, with two sustaining serious injuries.

Klopp, the Reds' former manager, was among those in attendance at the parade - although the buses had long passed through the area before the incident took place.

He posted on social media saying: "My family and I are shocked and devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are injured and affected. You'll never walk alone."

Reports first emerged at around 6pm UK time that a car had ploughed through a crowd of people at Water Street in the city center, with emergency services acting quickly to deal with the serious incident.

Merseyside Police later confirmed a 53-year-old white male was arrested at the scene and is believed to be the driver. Police are not searching for anyone else in relation to the crash, and it is not being treated as a terrorist incident.

Four children were injured on Monday, one of whom is among those seriously injured.

For Klopp, the Bank Holiday weekend marked the first time he had been back in Liverpool since leaving the club last year. He was the guest speaker at the LFC Foundation's Gala Dinner on Friday night, and then attended Sunday's final match of the season: A 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

He was among those on the second bus in Monday's title parade, behind the the open-top bus containing the players and head coach Arne Slot. Klopp was seen embracing Sir Kenny Dalglish during the festivities, scenes which sadly turned to disaster within minutes of the parade's conclusion.

Among the 47 injured was a survivor of the Manchester Arena bombing, and a supporter who traveled from Northern Ireland.

Police have also called on the public not to share any harrowing video footage from Monday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool released a statement on Monday, saying: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.

"We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."
