New Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after recalling him to the national team.
The 33-year-old has been named in Ancelotti's first squad as Brazil boss following his appointment earlier this month, marking his first call-up since October 2023.
The United midfielder, who started four of Brazil's five matches at the 2022 World Cup, has produced some solid performances in the Europa League this calendar year.
Ancelotti knows Casemiro well after the pair worked together at Real Madrid. The midfielder made 75 appearances under the Italian before moving to United in August 2022.
And ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay, Ancelotti has explained why he has made the decision to recall the midfielder.
"In my opinion, he is a great player," Ancelotti said. "I was lucky to be with him, I think the national team needs this type of player who has charisma, personality and talent.
"Brazil has always had a lot of talent. In modern soccer, you have to add attitude, commitment, sacrifice, and Casemiro has that. And many of those who have been called up have that."
Casemiro, who has scored seven goals in 75 games for his country, could be sold by United this summer amid their plan to listen to offers for any member of the squad.
Antony, who has spent the second half of this season on loan at Real Betis, has also been selected by Ancelotti, meaning he is in contention to make his first appearance for Brazil since March 2023.
The winger, who has amassed 16 caps for his country, scoring two goals, has been identified as a priority departure by United. He has scored nine goals in 25 appearances during his Betis loan spell so far.
