‘Abysmal’: Vitor Pereira urged to ditch ‘miserable’ player who isn’t ‘good enough’ for Wolves

One Wolves player has attracted end-of-season attention for the wrong reasons, giving Vitor Pereira a decision to make.

The Wolves manager will have his work cut out over the summer, as the Old Gold prepare to enter the transfer window.

Pereira has made his transfer wishes clear regarding players who could arrive at Molineux ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, but the boss’s demands could change.

Wolves are expected to lose a host of players in the summer, with one member of the squad surely needing to move on after a lacklustre season in the West Midlands.

Wolves urged to give up on Goncalo Guedes

While good form over the campaign has resulted in Matheus Cunha being set to join Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri generating interest, bad form is also set to have repercussions.

After starting the season well, Goncalo Guedes dipped off and has flattered to deceive when given the chance by Pereira.

Following the draw with Brentford, Wolves fans fumed at Guedes for his terrible showing, a performance that could just pave the way to the 28-year-old’s exit.

Dissecting the result on the final day, journalists Nathan Judah and Liam Keen expressed their dissatisfaction with Guedes, claiming that the 2022 signing isn’t good enough.

“Wolves pulled this draw off today with ten men, let’s be honest, because he was a passenger at times,” Judah said on the E&S Wolves Podcast.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think Goncalo Guedes is good enough,” he continued.

“He was absolutely abysmal, and if people are trying hard and getting it wrong, I can understand. I just think Goncalo Guedes, as he has been in his Wolves career, just goes through the motions, and I don’t know if he cares that much, really.”

Keen echoed Judah’s opinion that Guedes is lacking the fire to fight for a place in the Wolves squad, calling the attacker ‘miserable’.

“He’s very miserable, isn’t he? He just mopes around the place, and you’re just given an opportunity, and he hasn’t even come close to taking it, in my opinion.

“He’s had some okay moments this season, but that’s being relatively kind. I’m just not having him. I just can’t see how he fits into this system, how the sort of output and the quality is going to be good enough for what Wolves need.”

Guedes was one of the worst against Brentford, and the timing of his disastrous performance could be pivotal to his future in the Premier League.

Gary O’Neil gave Guedes his last chance at Wolves

Rewinding to the start of the campaign, it’s remarkable to see the 29-year-old still on the club’s books, given that Guedes was expected to leave Wolves last summer.

Upon returning to Wolves following a loan spell at Villarreal, Gary O’Neil decided to show trust in Guedes, but like clockwork, things took a downward turn for the Portuguese forward.

Good form starts with confidence, but even more important than confidence is attitude.

Guedes’ attitude and lack of desire to make a name for himself at Wolves have plagued his career in England from the earliest instance, and it doesn’t appear to have changed.

O’Neil attempted to reignite the former Paris Saint-Germain man’s time in the West Midlands, something that has proven to be an impossible project that Pereira must now pull the plug on.
