West Ham coach explains why he wants Chelsea to lose final, even though he likes Maresca

West Ham United goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero has revealed why he wants Chelsea to lose the Conference League Final, even though he’s a fan of Enzo Maresca.

[ABC Sevilla](https://www.abc.es/sevilla/) cover comments from the West Ham coach today, explaining why he’ll be supporting his former manager Manuel Pellegrini in tonight’s final.

Betis take on Chelsea in the final of the European competition looking to secure a first trophy under Pellegrini and return to the Europa League next season.

It’ll see Pellegrini come up against one of his former staff members, with Maresca having worked under him during his time at West Ham.

He joined the staff alongside Valero, as well as Rubén Cousillas, José Cabello, and Félix Cao, who have all since joined Pellegrini at Betis.

Valero’s relationship with the Chilean is a long-standing one, having also worked with him during his spell in China.

He also shares a close relationship with Maresca after working with him at the London Stadium, but his allegiances lie with his former West Ham manager and not the Chelsea boss on this occasion.

_“I coincided with Adrián, Fornals, and Doblas at different stages, and although I value Maresca, I want Betis to win,”_ he said.

_“A Betis-Chelsea match is at a high European level. I’m glad that we all came from that coaching staff._

_“At Betis I have Manuel, a large part of his coaching staff, Adrián, Fornals… I’m fond of Enzo, and I was at Chelsea when we won the Europa League, but I think Manuel needs more European titles; Enzo is just starting out.”_
