Crystal Palace are facing a battle to keep hold of star defender Marc Guehi following interest from several top clubs.

The England international has been instrumental for the south London club since joining from Chelsea in an £18million deal in 2021.

The 24-year-old captained Palace to their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City on 17 May, helping them earn their place in the Europa League for next season.

However, the Sun reported on 16 May Guehi is ready to run down his contract to land a “dream” move to Barcelona or Real Madrid when his deal expires at Selhurst Park in June 2026.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Real Madrid’s influence in signing players on free transfers is becoming a “big” issue.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join the Spanish giants on a free this summer after deciding to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Crystal Palace could agree Marc Guehi deal

Borson revealed Palace could prevent Guehi from joining Real Madrid by selling him this summer.

He told Football Insider: “It’s starting to become a bit of a problem for a number of clubs because what we’re seeing is less so Barcelona so far, but certainly Real Madrid are making a bit of a habit of being able to use their undoubted profile to convince players to see their contracts out.

“Obviously, they did it with Steve McManaman many years ago.

“But it hasn’t happened that often over the history of the game where top players have walked out for free.

“Probably a handful of really good players have done it, so it is a big issue, but ultimately, Palace can control that situation by selling him now.”

Crystal Palace to open Oliver Glasner talks

Football Insider revealed on 20 May Palace and Glasner will open contract talks in the coming weeks as they look to agree a new deal.

The Austrian manager, who is out of contract at Selhurst Park in June 2026, was linked with Tottenham and RB Leipzig before his side’s FA Cup success.

Sources say the 50-year-old would “love” to lead Palace out in the Europa League next season.
