On the final day of the Premier League season, Chelsea secured a spot in next season’s Champions League partly at the expense of Aston Villa.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side won in impressive fashion at Nottingham Forest, another mature performance from a young crop of players.
However, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side were undone by the rash decision-making of one of their own senior heads, Emiliano Martinez, who saw red in the first half at Old Trafford.
Martinez deserved his red card and even if Villa did deserve to go ahead through Morgan Rogers in the second half, Emery’s team still ultimately came up short in their pursuit of the top five.
Of course, having enjoyed such a strong run in the competition this season, Villa might now be worried about losing one or two players who want to remain competing at that level.
Chelsea believe they can tempt Morgan Rogers away from Aston Villa
That being said, GiveMeSport are now reporting that Chelsea have sensed an opportunity to tempt Rogers away from Villa Park this summer.
Villa bought Rogers for £15m from Middlesbrough in 2024 and the England international has prevailed as one of the finest attackers in the Premier League.

As a result, many of Villa’s top Premier League rivals are thought to be looking at Rogers’ situation, who does currently appear very happy under Emery’s guidance.
However, according to the report, Chelsea believe that their entry into next season’s Champions League alongside Villa’s failure to qualify, could really boost their chances of signing Rogers.
Before making any formal approach, the Blues will attempt to gauge Rogers’ interest in a move to Stamford Bridge, which he might ultimately consider to be a sideways step.
Rogers is said to be eager to ‘continue testing himself at the top level’ but the information stops short of stating that the Englishman would be prepared to leave imminently.
On their part, Villa would obviously be loath to lose Rogers, who remains integral to their long-term strategy.
Thomas Tuchel’s Morgan Rogers praise
Former Chelsea boss and current England manager Thomas Tuchel has perhaps already explained why the Blues are so keen on Rogers.
Tuchel called Rogers into his first England squad in March and the Villa star played in both matches, earning a start in a 3-0 win over Latvia.
And after impressing in those games, Tuchel said he was very ‘happy’ with the 22-year-old, who he initially trusted as his number 10.
Tuchel said: “Good. We’re happy with him in general, he deserved to start because he trained very good and has played very good for Villa.
“In a match where we’re so dominant, it can maybe suit him more to play on the wing. Once we put him on the wing, he felt more freedom and worked his way in.
“It’s interesting because I learn about the players and that’s good.”
Rogers might choose to stay at Villa this summer, a club he’s very happy at, but Chelsea are seemingly very eager to test the waters.
