Newcastle linked with €30m Atletico Madrid star as Man City target Toon talent

After an incredible season for Newcastle United, which included the Carabao Cup win and Champions , the club has big ambitions to continue their growth and success for many years to come.

However, like many teams outside of Europe’s perceived ‘elite’ sides, we’re finding ourselves facing increased interest in our best players.

However, the club looks to be well-prepared for any big departures this summer, as we’ve been tentatively linked with one of the premier defenders at one of Europe’s best-regarded sides.

Man City to target Tino?

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has re-affirmed that Manchester City are expressing serious interest in Toon right-back Tino Livramento.

Livramento’s stock has only risen in 2025 via his excellent performances – down the left and right – an England call-up and stellar display in the Carabao Cup final.

Writing on X, Romano stated: “Pep confirms today that Kyle Walker won’t be part of the future plans, he will leave this summer…and Tino Livramento remains the #1 target at right back, won’t be easy deal with Newcastle.”

Having been loaned to AC Milan back in January, England international Walker’s time at the Cityzens looks to be all but over, given his age, form, and wages being a big burden on the Manchester City defence.

And with Guardiola being a manager who has a penchant for spending big on defenders, particularly full backs, it’s no surprise that Livramento has cropped up as a potential signing for his side.

Though with how fundamental Livramento, like Lewis Hall and Sven Botman, are to our vision of a youthful, experienced defence, it should take a truly astronomical fee to even pry the former Southampton man away from Tyneside this summer.

The club will hopefully keep Tino on Tyneside, but a potential replacement has already been linked in recent days.

Spanish outlet MARCA report that we’ve ‘expressed interest’ in Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina, alongside Italian giants Napoli, Juventus and Roma.

Thought to be priced at €30m, the 27-year-old won the World Cup with Argentina back in 2022, and has played over 130 times for Diego Simeone’s side across all competitions.

It’s not the first time that Molina has been linked with a move to the Premier League, as Aston Villa were touted as potential suitors back in 2023.

If it’s anything like our move for Kieran Trippier from the Spanish capital to the North East, this could be a brilliant move in the making – an immensely experienced option with the big game expertise that will be very useful in our European adventures next season.

However, if it were to come down to Livramento or Molina, then it’s a no-brainer. Livramento is far too good a player to let go to a domestic rival, and it would be a truly shocking move to see us move for an older, less-adjusted option ahead of such a huge season.
