Real Madrid defender’s imminent return to action generating ‘excitement’ at club

The FIFA Club World Cup next month will be Xabi Alonso’s first challenge as Real Madrid’s new manager and his words during his presentation project serious changes at the club.

The manager is looking to impose a more controlled and attacking style of football at the club, something that indicates changes in the personnel involved on multiple levels.

One clear change that will come about after the upcoming tournament will be the departure of Luka Modric.

The Croatian star has served as Real Madrid’s most reliable midfielder for over a decade and his departure comes as a huge development in the club’s trajectory. With it, however, the No. 10 shirt in the dressing room becomes vacant as well.

Mbappe to take possession

As relayed by El Chiringuito, Kylian Mbappe will take over the No. 10 jersey for Real Madrid after the Club World Cup in what comes as a huge development.

Modric will continue to don the iconic number for the tournament in the United States but his successor from the next season will be Real Madrid’s French forward.

Since his arrival last summer, Mbappe has donned the No. 9 shirt for Los Blancos, taking it over from his compatriot Karim Benzema.

Now, however, he wishes to shift to the No. 10 which is the same jersey number that he dons for the French national team.

The prestigious kit has been donned by some of Real Madrid’s biggest legends over the years including Ferenc Puskas, Ricardo Gallego, Luis Figo and Modric, one of the greatest players to ever don the number.

Inheriting the jersey from the Croatian, Mbappe will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders to carry it with pride.

Having won the Pichichi and the European Golden Boot in just his first season in Spain, the Real Madrid star will look to take it to new heights and etch his name in history associated with the #10.
