Report: Blow for Wolves as one of Vitor Pereira's targets suffers serious injury amid rumours…

Wolves finished their Premier League campaign in 16th position, and now, Vitor Pereira will want to build on that in the summer transfer window.

Although Matheus Cunha is joining Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri is wanted by Manchester City, there is confidence that Vitor Pereira can build a competitive squad ahead of next season.

Pereira has already warned Fosun that he needs the financial backing this summer, and recent reports indicate that Wolves could splash the cash.

Wolves are set to table an £8.3m bid for Evertton Araujo from Flamengo, while another Brazilian has been placed firmly on their radar.

Wolves dealt Yuri Alberto blow as star ruled out for up to 12 weeks

In the January transfer window, Wolves wanted to sign striker Yuri Alberto from Corinthians, and now Cunha is on his way out of Molineux, interest in the 24-year-old has resurfaced.

It was claimed last week that Wolves were lining up a £30 million bid for Alberto, falling short of their £50 million valuation of the centre-forward.

Unfortunately, the Wanderers discovered that Alberto wanted to stay at Corinthians now, handing them a potential blow in pursuit of his signature.

Sadly, that isn’t the only blow Pereira has suffered in the mission to sign his former player, as according to Brazilian outlet Meu Timao, the striker has suffered a fracture to his vertebrae that could keep him out of action for up to 12 weeks.

He is likely to return from injury at the end of July or early August, putting their chances of landing him even lower.

Matheus Cunha replacement is their biggest summer mission

Alberto was seen as a potential heir to Cunha’s throne at Molineux, someone capable of producing magic in the final third.

But since he doesn’t plan on leaving Brazil and has suffered a long-term injury, Wolves must move onto other targets.

The importance of replacing Cunha is immeasurable, as there is no one else in the squad who can produce a moment of class out of nothing.

The 26-year-old finished the campaign on 17 goals in all competitions, telling of his incredible goalscoring prowess, while highlighting the importance of finding someone to score the goals without him.
