Liverpool's former manager Jurgen Klopp has been left "shocked and devastated" after a car crashed into fans in the aftermath of the club's trophy parade.

The city's streets turned from scenes of jubilation to chaos when a vehicle careered into the crowd on Water Street on Monday, shortly after 6pm.

Reports suggest 27 fans were taken to hospital, with two suffering serious injuries. Klopp, who was soaking up the festivities at the parade and was seen alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish, took to social media this morning to express his heartache.

The German, 57, posted: "My family and I are shocked and devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are injured and affected. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Dalglish also reached out last night with his own heartfelt words, as the 74-year-old shared: "Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today," reports the Liverpool Echo.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today's tragic event. Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You'll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you."

Merseyside Police gave a briefing last night, revealing that a 53-year-old male, believed to be the driver who crashed into the supporters, has been arrested in relation to the incident.

However, Merseyside Police have ruled out terrorism, with Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims urging the public: "Extensive enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision and it is vital that people do not speculate or spread misinformation on social media.

They added: "We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.
