According to a claim in the Turkish media, Trabzonspor are finally closing in on Southampton forward Paul Onuachu.
The Nigeria international has been linked with a return to the Super Lig for months, with reports Trabzonspor and Besiktas are interested.
Sabah today report on the future of the Southampton player, and they say there has been ‘significant progress’ in talks between the two clubs.
Trabzonspor’s issue last summer was that they couldn’t match Southampton’s valuation of the 30-year-old, but the Saints have now reportedly dropped his transfer fee and there’s now less than €2m between the clubs. Onuachu was also linked with the Trabzon side during the last transfer window
It’s also claimed Onuachu is keen to return to the Super Lig side following his success with them last season. He spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Trabzonspor and impressed, scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances.
Onuachu has made 27 appearances for Southampton this season, scoring four goals. He’s contracted to the English club until June 2026.
However, it’s expected he will leave St Mary’s this summer after the south coast club were relegated back to the Championship.
