Green Bay Packers fan base celebrated hard when they drafted Matthew Golden in the 2025 NFL draft last April. He is the team’s first ever first-rounder wide receiver since 2002 and many thought Jordan Love is going to have a field day with a beefed up WR corps.

That is exactly the quarterback’s thoughts according to head coach Matt LaFleur. The 26-year-old signal caller was among the first informed by LaFleur about their activity in the draft night.
LaFleur said Love’s first thought is about letting the offense loose because of the acquisition.
“You always want to kind of connect with the quarterback when you give him some pieces, so I Facetimed him and he’s like, ‘Man, sub-4.3 … I gotta get that arm loose,’ ” LaFleur said in a recent interview with The Athletic.

“So he can roll, and I said, ‘Hey, man, you’re just going to have to get that ball up on time and out early.’ ”
Golden himself said he also received encouraging message from Love through a personal text.

Love and Golden finally got to meet face to face over the weekend for a charity baseball game and the latter is making sure that he is on his quarterback’s side.
“You always gotta be there for your quarterback,” he told reporters present in the event.
As for Love, the face to face meeting only reinforced his view of the Texas Longhorns stand out.

“Yeah, I mean, he’s a great dude. I’m excited to see his potential on the football field,” Love told reporters after the conclusion of a charity softball game in Appleton.
He also thinks Golden is NFL ready.
“But just the start we’ve had, he looks like a stud. He looks like a very polished receiver, I’m excited to see just how far he can take it.”
