Caoimhin Kelleher reiterates come-get-me plea as Liverpool keeper plots next move

Caoimhin Kelleher has reiterated his desire to play regular football ahead of the transfer window.

The Liverpool keeper wants a new challenge after playing second fiddle to Alisson throughout the campaign.

Liverpool’s impending arrival of Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer has almost certainly sealed Kelleher’s fate.

That is despite impressing when handed his opportunity when Alisson was sidelined.

Kelleher has played 20 times across all competitions, and his performances have ensured his stock has continued to grow.

Speaking following the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace amid Liverpool’s title celebrations, he said: “I think I’ve said it before as well that I feel like I’m good enough to be a number one.

“I feel like I’m good enough to play week in, week out – and that’s what I’m going to do.

“This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games, but it’s definitely something I’m looking at.”

Caoimhin Kelleher could have his pick of clubs

Aston Villa are one of the clubs that could make their move for the 26-year-old.

The Midlands side are set to search the market for a new goalkeeper with Emiliano Martinez expected to leave.

The Argentine stopper, who was sent off at Old Trafford on Sunday, was in tears following Villa’s final league game of the season at Villa Park.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Saudi Arabia have been touted as possible destinations for Martinez.

Leeds are another club who may take advantage of Kelleher’s situation. Recently promoted to the Premier League, Daniel Farke wants an upgrade on Illian Meslier.

He was dropped towards the end of the Championship season following a series of blunders, and it appears Meslier has lost the trust of his manager ahead of a tough next campaign.

Brighton are another side who have been tentatively linked, but much depends on whether Bart Verbruggen remains with the club.

Ireland manager’s message to Caoimhin Kelleher

Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson sent a message to Kelleher ahead of an uncertain summer, advising him to seek first-team football.

He told the Irish Echo: “I just want Caoimhin to go to a club where he will play. He has been playing at the highest level.

“Champions League, Premier League, he’s done really well. I just want him to be happy and play regularly. I don’t mind where he goes so long as he is playing on a regular basis, he is too good not to be playing.”

Kelleher has made it no secret of his desire to play regularly. Towards the end of last year, he said: “I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be number one and play week in, week out.”
