Marc Guehi has established himself as a Crystal Palace hero after their FA Cup triumph but questions over his future remain amid links with Chelsea and Newcastle.

The 24-year-old Palace captain will have just 12 months to run on his contract at Selhurst Park next month.

Football Insider revealed in March that Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea will race Liverpool to land Guehi this summer – while Arsenal have also been linked.

Meanwhile, The Sun has reported (16 May) that Guehi is ready to run down his contract to land a “dream” move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that the England international is more likely to make a move within the Premier League this summer.

Guehi unlikely to follow Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, says Borson

Borson insisted Guehi’s situation is not similar to that of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real on a free transfer this summer after months of speculation.

He insisted the Palace defender would be taking a “big gamble” by playing 12 months of his career without a future contract in place.

Borson told Football Insider: “I can’t believe that he would turn down a move to one of the clubs that seems to be interested in Chelsea or Newcastle.

“It would be a big gamble to play a whole year without any guarantee of your next club. It’s a big gamble for a player.

“It’s like Kevin De Bruyne said about playing in the Club World Cup. What happens if he goes down injured? Who’s going to look after him?

“He’s going to be out of contract and who’s going to repair him?

“It’s different if you’re Trent Alexander-Arnold and you’ve got to January, you’ve signed a pre-contract or you get to December maybe and you’re secure. But to go the whole season is quite a step.

“Players have done it before, so it’s not impossible. Some of these players have earned so much money already that in the worst-case scenario they’ll still fancy themselves to be okay or they’ll be able to pay for their own rehab or they’ll find some club that’s prepared to do it or maybe they’ll find a Saudi club that’s prepared to underwrite the whole thing.

“I suspect that if a Chelsea or Newcastle come in for Guehi this summer with a bid that is too much for Palace to turn down, then I suspect he will go. But I don’t think it’s a surprise that he won’t sign a new contract.”

Guehi is now an established England international.

Chelsea and Newcastle to battle for Bundesliga star

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 May) that Newcastle will be strong contenders to sign Jamie Gittens this summer after securing Champions League football.

Gittens is a long-term target for Chelsea ahead of the transfer window and the Blues see themselves as front-runners to sign him this summer.

However, Newcastle are also now firmly in contention for the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund star.
