Tottenham midfield target rejects multiple offers from West Ham as the race heats up

West Ham United are stepping up their pursuit of Angel Gomes, with fresh offers already on the table as they refuse to back down in their bid to lure the midfielder away from Tottenham Hotspur’s grasp.

It is looking to be a busy summer window for Tottenham Hotspur, who will be keen to strengthen their squad following their recent Europa League triumph, which secured a return to UEFA Champions League football next season.

Tottenham are already being linked with several targets, including Angel Gomes, who is set to leave French side Lille when his contract expires at the end of the season, with the 24-year-old emerging as a serious option for the club.

In fact, we reported a few days ago that Tottenham are confident of winning the race for Gomes, following their Europa League win over Manchester United, which has given them additional pull in the transfer market.

West Ham United keep pressure on Tottenham in Angel Gomes race

Angel Gomes himself handed Tottenham a significant boost a few days ago after taking to social media to confirm that he would not be extending his stay at Lille.

Several clubs remain in the hunt for the English midfielder, including West Ham United, who have already submitted multiple offers to the player, although all of them have so far been rejected.

According to Football Insider, it is now expected to be an “open race” for the midfielder’s signature this summer, with West Ham showing no signs of backing down in their efforts to bring Gomes to East London.

This update follows comments from Football Insider’s chief correspondent Pete O’Rourke on the Inside Track podcast, where he stated that Gomes will have no shortage of Premier League options once the window opens.

He said: “It will be an open race for Angel Gomes – I think he will be one of the most sought-after free agents in this upcoming summer transfer window.

“He has confirmed he will leave Lille at the end of the season when his contract expires. He has had a lot of interest from Premier League clubs before.

“Spurs have shown interest, Aston Villa; West Ham have made offers to him which he has turned down, but they are still at the table trying to persuade the player to move to East London.

“[Gomes’] stock has really risen in the last year or so, he has broken into the England fold and become a regular in that squad.

“I am sure Gomes right now will be weighing up all options that are available to him.”

Marseille still in the race for Gomes despite Spurs links

While a return to the Premier League remains firmly on the cards for Gomes, a move to another French side cannot yet be ruled out.

It has been revealed that although Tottenham are hopeful their Champions League qualification will help them in negotiations, Marseille continue to push for Angel Gomes’ signature.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side will also be playing European football next season after finishing second in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain, which could give them a competitive edge in talks with the 24-year-old.
