Ex-NFL QB sees Steelers as Aaron Rodgers’ only option: ‘All these other teams, it’s not…

Former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck says Aaron Rodgers could land with Pittsburgh Steelers, and sees no other real option for him. Rodgers has still not given the Steelers a firm answer, but Hasselbeck does not buy the Minnesota Vikings as a serious threat.

“I’ve been seeing the reports that Aaron Rodgers would prefer Minnesota, and who would not? Everyone would,” Hasselbeck said on ‘The Herd.’ “But they seem to be settled on J.J. McCarthy as their quarterback. The quarterback free agency situation at the end of your career is very similar to musical chairs. There’s only a certain amount of chairs and when the music stops, it stops. Aaron Rodgers is going to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers. All this other talk about all of these other teams—it’s not happening. It needs to be a mutual acceptance. The music’s about to stop soon here and he’s going to have to sit."

On the Pat McAfee Show in April, Rodgers said he would not sign a deal with a team until he felt he could fully commit to them with his personal life in order.

In his latest interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, Rodgers may have just revealed and hinted at the issues he hopes to resolve in his personal life.

Rodgers said multiple people in his life are dealing with serious illnesses, including cancer.

“I’ve figured it out during the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers said.

That is taking a personal toll on Rodgers, who discussed non-conventional treatment options on the podcast. Still, he offered no certain timetable for a decision and seemed focused on his personal life first before anything else.

Steelers OTAs start today, while mandatory minicamp begins on June 10.
