Michail Antonio missed most of the season for West Ham through injury.

After being involved in a horrific car accident in December, Antonio broke his leg, which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite a big recovery period being mentioned, the striker has worked hard throughout the season and is much further ahead than expected.

Antonio returns to training with Jamaica

Given the extent of Antonio’s injury, much of his rehab so far has been about building fitness and mobility once more.

Due to his impressive recovery, Steve McClaren called the striker up to his Jamaica squad for the upcoming Unity Cup games.

The games are taking place in London, leaving the 35-year-old with little travel and the Jamaica Gleaner (26 May), has shared that Antonio has been involved in training already.

The report states that Antonio took part in the session but will not be involved in the squad for the game against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday (27 May).

Nevertheless, with a regional tournament to take part in next month, if he continues to train well, he could return to action as soon as then.

West Ham have Antonio call to make

West Ham know that they have plenty of work to do at the London Stadium this summer to push further up the Premier League table next term.

However, Antonio is out of contract at the London Stadium, which leaves a decision to be made over his future.

Although the 35-year-old hasn’t played for much of the season, it has been previously reported that the Hammers could offer the player a new contract to repay his service over several seasons.

Injury stopped Antonio’s season this year.

A return to training already and a potential return to action next month speak volumes about the type of person Antonio is, and that will surely help his case for a new contract.

The Irons do need new faces and additions to their squad from elsewhere, but if the striker has been able to return at this pace and can show his usual standards when back on the pitch, he could be a great option to keep in the side.
